Google’s new file manager for Android is called Files by Google. For the time being, it’s only available in beta version but you can download its APK to try it out provided that you’re on Lollipop or later.
Way beyond the classic file management
In this file manager, we’re going to find all the usual functions of this kind of tool. In other words, everything we need to access the folders of our device, whether a smartphone or tablet, to transfer files, create folders, copy documents…
However, it also incorporates other functions that we hadn’t seen to the date in Android’s native application, such as the possibility to send data between two devices that are physically nearby. For such purpose, we’d have to create a user to which other handsets can connect provided that we grant the permissions necessary.
Regarding the design, we can see that it has followed suit to other applications developed by this company, as is the case of Google Photos, for instance. Thanks to the latter, we can view in the first place whatever files we want depending on how we’ve organized them, paying special attention to the larger and heavier ones.
